Plein Air Painting Experience: I created this painting on location using oils and oil pastels on 300-lb paper. This is the overlook at Chain O'Lakes State Park, which is located at the Illinois and Wisconsin State line. This is one of my favorite parks to paint in, and I have easily painted 50+ paintings in this park over the years.

Backing: The painting backing is a hand-built foam-core support structure to secure the painting so it can hang safely on the wall. The paper painting has 3M glue tabs securing the painting to a sheet of foam core cut slightly smaller than the paper so the ruffled edges are exposed. There is a second support ring of the foam core, which this sheet is attached to. A wire is strung across the support ring.
